About the event

After relocating to Auckland (Narrow Neck) in 2019, Laura has continued to push the boundaries of what we know about ocean life, from the sensory systems of sharks and stingrays to the ecological dynamics affecting our coastlines and sea creatures in New Zealand. With a career that stretches across the Pacific and Atlantic, Laura’s work has involved collaborating with New Zealand's NIWA. Her recent work includes mapping out the stressors on marine ecosystems around New Zealand.

These projects are especially relevant for sailors and sea-lovers, as they reveal the interconnectedness of marine health and the practices that sustain or endanger it, including discard survivorship (are fish likely to survive when thrown back into the sea).

Join us as Laura shares insights from her research, spotlighting what it means to balance exploration, conservation, and education in a world where marine ecosystems constantly evolve
